Election is about more than Brexit

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

■ At the election I hope people will vote on the Tories’ appalling record and not just on Brexit.

Of course the Conservative elite will do all they can to bang on about Brexit because they don’t want people to focus on the destruction they have wrought during their past nine years in office.

Voters must remember why we are short of police, doctors, nurses, firefighters and why so many are forced to live on the streets or use foodbanks to feed their families.

It is the Tory way to make the poor poorer and the rich richer, so remember that, people, and not just Brexit when you cast your ballot on December 12.

Mick Streets, Chesterfield, Derbys

■ December 12 is decision day, so please people of Great Britain, remember this is not just about Brexit. It goes far beyond that – nine years beyond to be precise. Please don’t be tempted with the carrots Boris Johnson is dangling in front of us – the same carrots that were dangled by his predecessors David Cameron and Theresa May, who took them away as soon as they were in power.

The money Johnson is offering doesn’t go anywhere near making up for the savage cuts the Tories have made, so please use your vote with a lot of consideration.

M Tuplin, Ulceby North Lincs

■ There is a saying that a country gets the government it deserves. If the British people can’t see there is so much more at stake than Brexit in this election, then they shouldn’t complain when Boris is elected and the country goes to hell in a handcart. I urge all right-thinking people not to fall for the Tory spin and lies in what promises to be a very nasty election campaign.

William Rogers, Swindon, Wilts

■ Chancer Johnson says he regrets not being able deliver Brexit by October 31, blaming Parliament, Tory rebels, the Labour Party, the EU – in fact, everybody except himself. He has the brass neck to claim his deal is fantastic and yet it’s worse than Theresa May’s which he voted against three times. Yet even after all this the Tories are leading in the latest polls.

Keith Bowman, Chesterfield, Derbys

■ I only assume those readers who’ve criticised Jeremy Corbyn have fallen for the smear campaign against him. We’ve waited many decades for an honest, socialist politician to become the leader of the Labour party and now we have him.

This is our chance to vote for someone who’ll represent the ordinary people, not just the wealthy. Phil Wallis, Salford, Gtr Manchester

■ It’s hard to trust any politician. You have Johnson promising money for this and that while Corbyn’s pledging untold billions to insulate every house in the country. Why vote for their false promises? We are fed up with lying politicians. CJ Stephens, Plymouth

■ If you claim you can’t vote Labour because of Jeremy Corbyn, you shouldn’t consider yourself a Labour supporter. Corbyn won’t be here forever, the party will.
