Ambassador: ‘Trump said put pressure on Ukraine’
Inquest into mum’s death
DENIAL President Trump
THE US Ambassador to the EU acted under President Donald Trump’s orders to pressure Ukraine into investigating Democrat rival Joe Biden, he told the US leader’s impeachment inquiry yesterday.
Gordon Sondland’s testimony placed Mr Trump at the heart of a “quid pro quo” arrangement with Ukraine, offering vital £310million in military aid in return for them investigating Mr Biden.
The President denies any such deal.
The diplomat then went on to implicate Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Energy Secretary Rick Perry and Vice President Mike Pence in the deal.
“They knew what we were doing and why,” Sondland told the House Intelligence Committee.
“Everyone was in the loop. It was no secret.”
Mr Sondland’s bombshell testimony left the White House reeling.
If the inquiry finds him guilty of an abuse of power, Mr Trump could be removed from office following a Senate trial. still
Scott & Leah
DR ALI UCKAN SPEAKING TO LEAH’S PARTNER SCOTT
Leah Cambridge
THE partner of a mum who died having a £6,500 Brazilian bum lift was told by her surgeon the procedure was “a guessing game”, an inquest heard.
Leah Cambridge, 29, was killed by a blood clot she suffered during the operation – in which fat is extracted from the waist and injected into the bottom – in a Turkish clinic.
Leah’s partner, Scott Franks, told the inquest that the surgeon told him he injected the fat too far into the muscle and it entered her veins.
Scott, who has two children with Leah, flew to Turkey to speak to Dr Ali Uckan after her death.
He told Wakefield coroner’s court in West Yorks that Dr Uckan told him: “He said... her oxygen levels were dropping, so they stopped operating and made Leah stable.
“He just said they got her stable and then she had a further three heart attacks.
“He said everyone’s anatomy is different. His words were, ‘It’s a guessing game. You can’t see where you’re going into, you just have to try to stay away from certain veins.’
“‘It’s a matter of life and death when you are doing it.’ He said they had injected too far into the muscle.”
Leah, a beautician from Leeds, flew to Turkey with her mother, Theresa Hall, in August 2018 for the surgery, arranged by intermediary Elite Aftercare.
Senior coroner Kevin McLoughlin said he tried to summon Dr Uckan to give evidence, but he sent a statement instead. In it, Dr Uckan said he had been a plastic surgeon since 2010 and carried out the surgery “in the region of 1,000 times” with no complications.
Georgina Neville, of Elite Aftercare, said: “Truly and deeply, I’m sorry.” She refused to answer when asked if her firm will still offer the op. The inquest continues.
