SAISS BACK BEF0RE HIS MATCH BAN

- BY JAMES NURSEY

ROMAIN SAISS is ready to star for Wolves tomorrow – before he is banned at the weekend.

Saiss is suspended for the visit of Sheffield United on Sunday after picking up a fifth booking of the season in last weekend’s Premier League win at Bournemouth.

But the Moroccan international could continue to deputise for the injured Willy Boly in defence when Wolves play Braga in the Europa League tomorrow.

Saiss (above) has previously starred in midfield under boss Nuno Espirito Santo, but plays at the back for his country.

And Nuno may use him in defence in Portugal, where victory will send the visitors into the last 32 with a game to spare.

Saiss, 29, said: “Since I was young, I’ve played in a lot of positions. A lot of the time I’ve played in midfield or centre-back.

“Most of it was midfield, but every season I’ve always played 10 games in defence. Since my second cap with the national team, I’ve played at the back.

“There was an injury to a centre-back and the coach asked me if I could play at the back. I said yes and now it’s 41 caps at the back.

“The most important thing is to be on the pitch and enjoy it.”

Wolves are fifth in the Premier League and on the cusp of the Europa League knockout stage.

It has been a demanding schedule after 25 games already this term.

But Saiss – signed from Angers in 2016 – says it is the fittest squad he has been a part of.

He said: “I think we are doing a great job together to stay fit as we don’t have a big squad.”
