PABLO SHOWS TIGER’S TEETH

NETBALL: ENGLAND BEATEN IN SOUTH AFRICA

- SITTING PRETTY

PABLO LARRAZABAL was inspired by Tiger Woods after a remarkable turnaround to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.

The Spaniard started the day three shots clear but struggled with blisters on his feet and swing problems in the final round.

He took off his shoes and threw a club in frustration after a wild hook down the left from the ninth tee, where he carded one of six bogeys as well as a double. Eight dropped shots saw the 36-year-old fall three off the pace but he regrouped to make three birdies in his last four holes to earn a one-shot victory with a 75 and eight-under-par total.

He said: “I woke up this morning and didn’t think I was going to play. I couldn’t put my shoe on, I couldn’t walk to the buggy. But I said to myself, ‘If Tiger can win a US Open with a broken leg...’ And fought.”

TOUR BLIP FOR THIRLBY

ENGLAND sank to a 54-48 loss in the final game of their Test series against South Africa.

Having already won the series with two victories in Cape Town, coach Jess Thirlby (right) gave a first start to Kate Shimmin.

But England were frustrated by South Africa keeper Phumza Maweni, who forced 27 turnovers. The tourists made a series of errors, giving the hosts chances to get a four-goal lead going into the second quarter.

Thirlby, who replaced the retired Tracey Neville in July, introduced Kadeen Corbin, giving England added strength at goal attack and they drew level as fatigue crept in for South Africa. But they could not keep it up and fell to a defeat.
