NICLAS ELIASSON isn’t good enough to follow City head coach Lee Johnson in becoming a judo champion.
But the Swedish winger (above) is more than happy to continue his regular classes in the martial art, suggested by Johnson as a means of increasing his upper body strength.
After destroying Huddersfield with a scintillating first-half display that helped City build a 4-1 lead, Eliasson said: “I have been having sessions with a judo coach aimed at getting to know my body and how to use it more effectively.
“It is helping me protect the ball better. I don’t think I will be going for any belts at this stage, but I am enjoying it and really believe it is benefiting my game.”
After Josh Brownhill diverted in Andreas Weimann’s 11th-minute shot to put City in front, Eliasson saw his 30th-minute cross turned into his own net by Terence Kongolo.
Karian Grant’s rightfooted finish reduced arrears only for the hosts to strike twice more before half-time through headers by Eliasson and Ashley Williams. Weimann netted from a narrow angle after the break and Juninho Bacuna’s sweet drive from 25 yards proved no more than a consolation for Huddersfield.
Terriers boss Danny Cowley said: “I felt ashamed when I went over to thank the fans.”
