Boris will deliver five years of hell

-

■ With a majority of 80, I fear Boris Johnson’s intense dislike of all opposition will come to the fore. He has already purged his party of moderate Tories, hinted that the Supreme Court will not be able to give judgement on political matters, has made threats against Channel 4 for putting an ice block in his place as he failed to appear on their pre-election climate change debate, and now says people may not be prosecuted for failing to pay the BBC licence.

I also think Dominic Cummings is a destructive influence whom Boris Johnson would be wise to dispense with.

■ Boris Johnson is now showing his true colours. He conned Jeremy Corbyn into calling an election that he wanted, all along knowing he had no intention of taking no-deal off the table and has now cut workers’ rights guarantees out of the Brexit bill.

I hope the Labour voters who trusted him to carry out his promises will realise what they have unleashed on Great Britain. Had Labour won I think we could have got rid of Corbyn in six months, but now we’re saddled with Johnson for five years.

■ The so easily fooled working class who voted Conservative are already seeing results which are not in their interests. They may get a minimum wage rise but only if the economy (trashed by nine years of Tory policies) improves! Our health service will not get the funds it needs, neither will our police, local authorities, schools or the homeless.

Johnson will continue to wave two fingers at the majority leaving those voters unrepresented.

■ We will soon be entering the 2020s but, unfortunately, with blustering Boris Johnson in charge it is going to be more like the 1920s, with no decent trade agreements, falling exports, falling employment and an economic depression.

■ If we thought David Cameron’s austerity was bad, what is coming will be far worse. We have a conniving, bumbling conman in charge with no plan for beyond January 31.

David Wathen, Leicester

■ The result of this election with its warped logic was on the cards for some time because this country constantly rewards failure. What sort of twisted mind can deem a silly mantra like Get Brexit Done more important than the health of a nation?

It’s all very well for those Conservative voters to play fast and loose with their own health but others who have a saner rationale are forced to go along for the ride.

ER Thwaites, Cockermouth Cumbria

■ Labour voters were convinced it was OK to vote Tory just this once to Get Brexit Done. No doubt the horrifying reality of 10 years with the horror clown in Number 10 will gradually dawn on them.

All the promises of more money for schools and the NHS will vanish like the mist.

Derek McMillan, Durrington West Sussex

■ Never in the history of democracy has a bigger pair of liars and chancers than Boris Johnson and Donald Trump held so much power. The UK and the USA deserve what they get. Roll on five unbearable years for us.
