DANGER Drone in the air

ONE in four drone users risks being fined £1,000 for not registering online.

Under new rules, anyone owning a drone weighing 250g or more must obtain an operator ID to fly it outside and pass a theory test to obtain a flyer ID.

After 125 near-misses with aircraft in 2018, registration became mandatory a month ago, but the Civil Aviation Authority says 25,000 of the 100,000 users have not yet done so.

Jonathan Nicholson, of the CAA, said: “A drone for Christmas is exciting, but drones aren’t toys.”

AN excited 101-year-old celebrates her Christmas wish coming true, as a Beaver pack arrives to tell her she has become Britain’s oldest member.

Pip Peek is pictured surrounded by her new “Colony” of youngsters, who all turned up to visit her at the care home where she lives.

Pip told staff she had always wanted to be in the Beaver Scouts – normally for six to eight-year-olds – but feared she was too old.

After she hung her hope on the centre’s wishing tree, staff at St Paul’s Care Centre, in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, got in touch with the local Scouts group. The Beavers soon turned up at Pip’s bedside and welcomed her as an honorary member of their Colony.

The youngsters presented Pip with an official bright yellow neckerchief and then gave her a full group salute. Delighted Pip said: “I can’t believe my wish has come true. You’re all so lovely – how wonderful.”

The Beavers then sang Christmas carols and handed out decorations and hand-made Christmas cards to each of the residents at the care home.
