DOBEY: I WON’T BE FALLON’S NEXT FALL GUY

- BY MIKE WALTERS

KILLJOY Chris Dobey has resolved to be the Christmas grinch who spoils Fallon Sherrock’s magic carpet ride.

The Queen of Ally Pally returns to her domain tomorrow with the nation still gripped by the pink-pinkfizz of her stunning wins against Ted Evetts and world No.11 Mensur Suljovic.

But lying in wait for the Milton Keynes hairdresser in her signature magenta top (left) will be No.27 seed Dobey (right), who warned: “I need to end the fairy-tale.”

Sherrock, 25, whose odds have been slashed from 2,000-1 rank outsider to 100-1 after becoming the first woman to beat male opponents at the William Hill PDC world championship, has some spare Paxo left over with the cold turkey.

And she is planning her own roadblock for Dobey, a former traffic management operative who used to put the cones out on motorway lane closures and contraflows.

In his second-round win against Ron Meulenkamp, Dobey sportingly gestured to the crowd to tone down their partisan heckling of the

Dutchman. But the Bedlington terrier knows the fancy dress legions will all be on Sherrock’s side and he said: “I’m expecting some boos but I’m ready.

“Not disrespect to Fallon but I’m up there to provide for myself and my family. I’ll be going up there to do a professional job and hopefully end the fairy-tale. “It was the draw I wanted. I want to prove myself and show everyone what I can do because the whole world will be watching. “Fallon has shown that the women can do it. She has gone that step further, it has been fully deserved and fair play to her.”

If Dobey, 29, succeeds as pantomime villain, he does not expect an invitation to play darts against Piers Morgan.

Sherrock found herself trading arrows with the Good Morning Britain host just hours after her historic win against Evetts, but Dobey said: “It’s all about what she’s achieved being the first woman ever to win at Ally Pally.

“She deserves all the credit she’s got. You’ve just got to play her like she’s one of the lads, and treat it like any other game.”
