CARLO: WIN FELT SPECIAL
FROM FRONT PAGE fantastic it is here – it is a big club with a big tradition and we want to go to the top.”
Ancelotti was pleased with a victory where Burnley failed to record a single shot on target, and were restricted to one real chance.
But his own Blues side also struggled on a difficult afternoon, and he admitted there is room for improvement.
“The performance and the spirit of the team was good and we defended well in a special game with a lot of long balls,” added the Italian.
“In the end the performance was good, not top, but good.
“We were a little bit slow from the back in the first half, we had more problems and we have to be more efficient in front.
“In the first half we had opportunities to counter attack, but we missed the right choice. There we can improve.
“The players tried to do something different from the last game, the position in possession was a little different and for the first time it was good.”
Burnley manager Sean Dyche (above), who saw his keeper Nick Pope (below) make a couple of key saves to keep his team in the game, was happy with his side’s overall performance as their gameplan of frustrating Everton almost paid dividends.
But in the end he said that one poor moment had cost his side.
Dyche admitted: “Our two centre-halves were terrific.
“But then, unfortunately, we made a mistake by trying to play inside football, instead of playing for position, and that’s one detail in a whole game.
“It’s just one decision, one mistake from a player who’s not made any mistakes for a very long time.
“We deserved a point and if we had come away from here with that today, we would have been satisfied.”
