Brave Kye’s ‘Skywalker’ bionic hand
JOY Kye shows off hand
AN 11-YEAR-OLD Star Wars fanatic has become like his film hero Luke Skywalker after having a bionic hand fitted.
Kye Vincent had all four limbs amputated after being struck down with meningitis, aged eight.
He made a remarkable recovery and is thrilled with his £10,000 bionic hand made by Bristolbased Open Bionics using a state-of-the-art 3D printer, which gives amputees exceptional mobility.
His mum Cheryl, 39, of Leighton Buzzard, Beds, said: “When Kye lost his limbs he said he wanted to be a bionic boy.
“So to see him with a hand again is very, very emotional. It will enable him to do basic things like eat with a fork, hold a toilet roll, or even play Jenga.”
PADDY McGuinness says wife Christine gave him an earful after watching his death-defying drive in Top Gear’s Nepal special.
In the show, a Renault 4 flew down a narrow Himalayan track after co-host Chris Harris got out, as Paddy drove behind it.
He dodged a potentially fatal crash with a last-gasp reversing manoeuvre in his Peugeot 106.
And Paddy admitted: “She did have a serious chat with me, going, ‘We’ve got kids – you can’t keep risking things like this’.
“There’s no two ways about it
– some of those roads in Nepal, you make a wrong move, there’s no help... you are basically dead.”
Paddy, 46, said he had not warned Christine, mum to their three children, what happened.
But he hopes his Christmas show near miss will be forgotten once the new series starts.
In episode one Freddie Flintoff bungee jumps off a 500ft dam in a Rover Metro convertible.
“I’m thankful... that’ll take the heat off me,” Paddy joked.
