ROVERS GIVE OLE LOTS TO MULL OVER

Tranmere sink Watford .. now bring on United

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

PAUL MULLIN headed an extra-time winner to give League One Tranmere a dream FA Cup fourth round clash with Manchester United.

Mullin (left) found the net in the 105th minute after a cross from Liam Ridehalgh was flicked on by Corey Blackett-Taylor, dumping Premier League side Watford out.

And United boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer won’t be too impressed with the surface his injury-hit side will have to play on at Prenton Park this Sunday.

Tranmere won’t care though as, after coming from 3-0 down at Vicarage Road earlier this month, they knocked out Nigel Pearson’s side despite Kayden Hinds cancelling out Manny Monthe’s opener to force extra-time.

Premier League Watford made 11 changes from Tuesday’s defeat at Aston Villa. That they had to play this replay just 48 hours later was down to last week’s original date being postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Pearson’s job description may be to keep the Hornets in the Premier League, but Tranmere were well up for it.

Corey Blackett-Taylor fired over early on for the League One side, before Neil Danns shot wide.

Blackett-Taylor then missed a great chance when Kieron Morris had a good strike saved by Watford keeper Daniel Bachmann. But the hosts took the lead in the 36th minute when centre-back Monthe ( below) fired in off the post after Peter Clarke flicked on a corner.

The Premier League side didn’t create a single chance in the opening half, but Joao Pedro finally gave Scott Davies some work to do aft after the break, the Tranmere kee keeper denying him well.

J Jose Holebas then struck the po post with a volley as the top tier sid side strived to get level.

But half-time substitute Hinds ( far left) got the equaliser in the 68th minute, firing through a crowd of players after a scramble following a corner. Mullin had a glorious chance to p put the League One side back in front f but hit the post after going rou round Bachmann. But he took his cha chance in extra time to send jub jubilant Tranmere through.
