THE probe into the biggest ever NHS baby deaths scandal is now investigating more than 1,000 cases.

And many more people are coming forward, according to a key witness in the inquiry.

Kelly Jones says she was told about the huge numbers by midwife Donna Ockenden who is heading the probe.

It is looking into mums and babies who died or were harmed at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust maternity units. Kelly said: “This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to the NHS.

“I asked Donna if we now have more than 1,000 cases and she said ‘yes’. There are hundreds of families still coming forward.

“I’m disgusted and angry. I want to know how they managed to get away with this for so long.”

Kelly’s twin girls died in 2014 due to failings at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

She is pregnant

FEARS Kelly Jones again and is “terrified” about having another child there. Kelly could have the baby at another trust but needs a consultant-led birth so feels going many miles from her home in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, would be dangerous.

The probe into alleged staff failings is going back to cases spanning four decades. An inquiry spokesman said it is looking at more than 900 cases and it will “take more time to establish the final figure”.

PRIDE Vitiligo Barbie and model Winnie

Other dolls in the range, including hair loss and wheelchair

A NEW Barbie doll with vitiligo has been launched as part of maker Mattel’s diversity range.

It follows the success of Victoria’s Secrets model Winnie Harlow, 25, who has the pigmentation condition that makes skin appear patchy.

Mattel hopes the move will give girls with vitiligo the confidence to embrace their look rather than try to hide away.

Also included in the diversity range are hair loss Barbie, one with a gold prosthetic leg and Ken with flowing locks.

They was already a wheelchair Barbie as well as a range of others in different shapes and skin tones. The new dolls cost £11.99 and vitiligo Barbie will hit stores in spring.

Mattel said: “Barbie is continuing to represent global diversity.”
