Victims on Satan’s orders

routine check at the Alabama border showed Bundy’s VW listed as stolen.

When police officer David Lee arrested Bundy, the killer fled but Lee chased and subdued him in a fight.

Bite marks on the bodies of several murder victims were later found to be Bundy’s.

He finally confessed to 36 murders, but some believe the true number could exceed 100.

Experts were surprised someone like Bundy – intelligent and suave with a stable family that lasted 12 months, from summer 1976 until his final attack in July 1977.

By then, he’d killed six people and wounded seven, almost all of them young couples, sitting in their cars.

After the sixth attack in April 1977, he began taunting the New York Police Department by writing letters to them, signing off as the “Son of Sam”.

In one, he wrote: “To stop me you must background and a devoted stepdad to Elizabeth’s daughter – turned so evil. Criminologist Professor David Wilson said: “While Ted Bundy was a serial killer, he wasn’t what you’d expect.” Bundy described himself as “the most cold-hearted son of a bitch you’ll ever meet”.

He decapitated at least 12 of his victims and kept some of their heads as mementos.

“The ultimate possession was, in fact, the taking of FILM Collins as Kloepfer kill me. Sam’s a thirsty lad and he won’t let me stop killing until he gets his fill of blood.”

When he murdered Stacy Moskowitz and blinded her companion, Robert Violante, a witness saw a dark-haired man near the scene, taking a $35 parking ticket from his car windscreen.

Detectives searched the area for ticket records, and pulled up the licence plate of 24-year-old postal worker Berkowitz. In his

the life,” Bundy once explained. “And then… the physical possession of the remains. Murder is not just a crime of lust or violence. It becomes possession. They [the victims] are part of you… and you are forever one.”

Bundy was executed by electric chair on January 24, 1989, aged 42.

Since then, there has been a continued fascination with him. Prof Wilson added: “In America, there are Ted Bundy parties.

“People go in VW Beetles, the car he drove, and dress in Seventies gear. The fascination has never gone.”

car, they found a bag filled with ammunition, maps of the crime scenes and another letter to the authorities. He told the detective in a soft voice: “I’m Sam.”

Once in custody, he told police that a man from 6,000 years ago named Sam spoke to him through his neighbour Sam Carr’s black Labrador, commanding him to kill.

He had three mental aptitude tests but was deemed fit to stand trial, and pleaded guilty to all charges. He was given six 25-years-to-life sentences.

Berkowitz is now a born-again Christian, and his supporters claim that the “Son of Sam” is now the “Son of hope.”
