Home smear kits on way

THE Department of Health is working on a DIY smear kit, to allow women to complete cervical cancer tests at home.

In 2018, only 70% of people eligible had cervical cancer smear tests.

The home smear kit was developed by researcher­s at Queen Mary University of London last year.

Health Minister Jo Churchill said: “No woman should be denied access to vital screening.”

The kits are expected to be available in three years.

Nicholas Parsons, it seemed, would go on forever. And for that reason his fans were in shock when he died, aged 96, yesterday.

Always neatly-coiffed in blazer and flannels, the silky-toned entertaine­r had captivated audiences on stage, screen and the airwaves since just after the Second World War.

Best known as the genial host of ITV’s Sale of the Century, he was also a BBC

Radio 4 stalwart and chaired the longrunnin­g comedy panel show Just A Minute, in which contestant­s must avoid hesitation, repetition or deviation.

He was so dedicated to the show that in 2018, when he was forced by flu to miss an episode for the first time in its 50-year history, fans had to ask whether
