Painful list of past atrocities to hit Britain
2013 Lee Rigby: Islamic extremists Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale brutally killed soldier Lee Rigby outside his barracks in Woolwich, South East London.
Both men were sentenced to life with Adebolajo given a whole life order and Adebowale ordered to serve at least 45 years.
2016 Jo Cox: Labour MP Jo Cox was shot and stabbed by white nationalist Thomas Mair in Birstall, West Yorks. Mair also injured a passerby who tried to help. Mair had links to British and US far-right political groups. He was sentenced to life
2017 Westminster attack: Islamic extremist Khalid Masood drove a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four and injuring 50.
He ran into the grounds of Parliament and fatally stabbed PC
Keith Palmer, before being shot dead by police.
2017 Manchester bombing: Suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 music fans and injured
139 others at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena. It was the deadliest attack in Britain since the 7/7 London bombings in 2005. 2017 London Bridge attack: A gang of Islamic terrorists hired a van and drove it into revellers on London Bridge before going on a stabbing rampage in nearby Borough Market. Khuram Shazad Butt, Rachid Redouane, Youssef Zaghba killed eight people and wounded at least 48. The trio, all wearing fake suicide vests, were shot dead by police just eight minutes after the incident was first reported.
2019 London Bridge: Released prisoner and Islamic extremist Usman Khan went on a rampage killing two people and leaving three injured. Khan had been convicted of terrorist offences in 2012 and was attending a prisoner rehabilitation conference at Fishmongers’ Hall.
