TYLER ROBERTS is confident stuttering Leeds can get their promotion bid back on track despite another dismal defeat to struggling Wigan.

The Whites dominated the Latics but were undone by an unfortunate own-goal from midfielder Pablo Hernandez.

It’s the second season in a row that Leeds have crashed at Elland Road to Wigan (Latics celebrate at final whistle, right). And defeat saw Marcelo Bielsa’s misfiring side slip to second in the table as West Brom returned to the summit.

“We’re very down, but everybody has those off days,” admitted Wales forward Roberts. “But I’m sure it won’t happen many more times. It’s just patience. We’ve shown that we can dominate any game and create chances against anyone, but it just didn’t go for us.

“It’s bad to have this disappointment, but we’ll go again. We deserved the three points, I don’t think anyone can argue that.

“Wigan have come and they’ve had their game plan, but we’ve still dominated possession.

“We’ve created more chances, so I don’t think it’s fair for them to get the three points. But that’s football.” Striker Patrick Bamford could have done better with a hat-trick of chances as the Latics defended manfully. And they claimed a shock win thanks to Joe Williams’ 59th-minute corner deflecting off Hernandez to catch out keeper Kiko Casilla.

The Latics capped a fine week in which they also beat Sheffield Wednesday at home. Paul Cook’s battling charges are now just two points adrift of safety and striker Kieffer Moore said: “I think we have turned a page now.

“That’s two wins on the bounce for us for the first time in a long while. It’s definitely going to help us try and achieve our goal of staying up.”
