‘HOMETOWN HEAT IS ON KELL’

Chiefs quarterback paid tribute to legend Kobe by playing like a legend himself in amazing comeback victory BROOK v DELUCA, SHEFFIELD, SATURDAY GOLF WORLD RANKINGS

PATRICK MAHOMES paid tribute to a legend the only way he knows how – he played like one himself.

KELL BROOK is feeling the pressure ahead of his comeback fight on Saturday, claims Mark DeLuca.

DeLuca will be in the opposite corner when Brook steps into the FlyDSA Arena ring in his native Sheffield after 14 months out.

Brook has only fought twice since losing his IBF welterweight crown to Errol Spence Jr in May 2017, and American southpaw DeLuca said: probably become the first player to sign a $200million deal, threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in a 31-20 win.

He was far from perfect, especially through the first 50 minutes of a game where his uncharacteristic mistakes offered the 49ers chances they took advantage of but not with the ruthless streak required.

That left Mahomes with just enough time to make up and surpass a deficit that should have been too much even for him. He claimed however, that losing never entered his thinking.

Mahomes, who was named Most

“All of his fans are waiting for him to come back and it’s in his home town. He has to deal with all this pressure and show up and perform, he has his hands full.

“I can’t speak for him, but I know he’s at the crossroads in his career.

“I know he wants to get back to where he once was and in order to do that he needs to beat me.

“Fighting someone of his calibre means everything to me.”

Valuable Player, said:

“My mindset is always to play and compete to the very end, the last whistle, until that clock strikes zero. So I just went out there and kept competing.

“I knew we weren’t in the ideal situation, but I believed in my defence. And then the guys just kept believing and started making plays downfield and we found a way to

RORY McILROY will become world No.1 for the first time in more than four years next week without hitting a ball.

The Northern Irishman (right) will go ahead of current top dog Brooks Koepka after the American could only finish in a tie for 17th in Saudi Arabia at the weekend. Both players are set to win. It really is amazing. Just to be here is surreal, finding a way to win in the end with these guys I have around me. “We’ll enjoy this for a long time. It truly is historic to be here and to win this game.”

Andy Reid has been trying to win the Super Bowl as a head coach with Philadelphia and Kansas City since 1999, and Mahomes said achieving that for Reid was the biggest thrill. He added: “He’s one of the best coaches of all-time. He already was before we won this game, but we wanted to get that trophy just because he deserved it.

“The work that he puts in day-in and day-out, he’s there at like 3am, and he leaves at 11. I don’t think he sleeps. I’ve tried to beat him in, and I never can. “He’s someone that works harder than anyone I’ve ever known, and he deserves it. “I’m glad we were able to get that trophy for him.”

TOP OF THE WORLD, RORY

take this week off but, due to the ranking-system rules, Koepka will lose more points than McIlroy. That means McIlroy, 30, will edge ahead of the American by three-hundredths of a point. And when he tees off at the Genesis Open in Los Angeles next week he will be on top of the world for the first time since September 2015.
