MINISTER Will Quince

A MINISTER has hinted that Universal Credit could need more funding ahead of the Budget.

Will Quince told the Commons he would like to make changes to the sixin-one benefit that “require Treasury approval”.

The Tory added some changes could be made quickly, “otherwise we have to look to fiscal events”.

Fiscal events generally mean Budgets, Spring or Autumn Statements or Spending Reviews. Chancellor Sajid Javid is holding the Budget on March 11.

A DWP source sought to play down Mr Quince’s comments, saying he was making only a “general comment about the procedure” for changing UC.

It comes after the rollout of the benefit was delayed again – until 2024, at a cost of £500million.

A WELSH walkabout becomes a trip down memory lane for the Duchess of Cambridge – as she meets two of her old school teachers.

Kate hugged Denise EvansAllford and Kevin Allford then exclaimed: “It’s a small world.”

They had not seen her since she was 14, after she left prep school in Pangbourne, Berks. Kate told them: “I want to instil in my children the life I had at St Andrew’s.”

The couple had driven from home in Carmarthen to try to say hello to

Kate, who was visiting Joe’s Ice Cream parlour in Mumbles, Swansea, with husband William.

They passed a note explaining who they were to a police officer, and were delighted when Kate came out to meet them.

“It was wonderful she gave us

Kate as a youngster so much time,” said Mr Allford, 67, who taught French and German.

“She was in a wonderful class of girls and they got on so well together.” Mrs Evans-Allford, 64, who taught PE, added: “We had such a fantastic time. She was in my netball and rounders team. She was wonderful. She hasn’t changed a bit.”

The royals earlier met staff and volunteers at the RNLI’s Mumbles Lifeboat Station.

After chatting about the stresses of saving lives, the Duke urged a crew to speak about their mental health, saying: “Everyone has a chink in their armour.” They also visited Tata Steel, a main local employer.

Wills and Kate were a hit too, with youngsters at a boxing club, who gave them blue, red, and pink boxing gloves for children George, Charlotte and Louis.
