BELA ON THE BALL TO SEE BRUM HOME

BIRMINGHAM scored two late equalisers before beating tenants Coventry on penalties to earn a fifth round trip to Leicester.

Lukas Jutkiewicz, Jeremie Bela, Gary Gardner and Harlee Dean all scored for Birmingham from the spot.

Matthew Godden converted for Coventry but Liam Walsh and Jamie Allen were denied by keeper Lee Camp to spark wild celebrations (above).

Coventry began the more dangerous side, but their momentum was disrupted by a lengthy treatment to Brum midfielder Josh McEachran, who was eventually carried off with a nasty leg injury.

Jefferson Montero caused the Sky Blues problems and tested keeper Marko Marosi.

Birmingham went on the offensive again after the re-start but it was Coventry who finally made the breakthrough in the 50th minute.

Zain Westbrooke played in Bakayoko down the middle and his right-foot effort looped up off Camp and into the net for his fifth goal of the season but his first since October.

Bellingham was replaced by regular frontman Jutkiewicz, but the Sky Blues should have wrapped up the win only for Maxime Biamou to shoot wide.

And they were nearly punished when Ivan Sunjic put substitute Bela clear, but Marosi came off his line to save.

The visitors keeper was finally beaten in added time by Dean’s header from Jacques Maghoma’s cross to take the match into extra time.

Coventry looked set to prevail in the 114th minute as Biamou notched from six yards from O’Hare’s cross for his ninth of the season.

O’Hare’s assist as sub atoned for a glaring late miss in the first tie.

But Brum got another last-gap leveller as Bela notched with a hopeful shot from 25 yards which went in off a post, to take it to penalties and then on to Premier League Leicester City.
