Reading win 4-1 on pens

READING came back from two down to reach the fifth round with a 4-1 shootout win.

Josh Murphy and Robert Glatzel had put Cardiff in control before Omar Richards and substitute Andy Rinomhota sent the game into extra-time.

Murphy’s second goal and Yakou Meite ensured the 120 minutes ended level then Reading bossed the penalties (above) by scoring all four they took.

Aden Flint and Will Vaulks failed to convert for the Bluebirds.

REFEREE: tame header saved by Neil Etheridge, who then brilliantly denied Meite.

Reading swapped Adam and Puscas for Garath McCleary and Sone Aluko at the break.

Gavin Whyte was involved, but Vaulks’ outrageous outside-ofthe-foot pass did the damage as he found Glatzel, who ran in on goal and finished calmly.

Reading pulled one back when Richards headed home at Etheridge’s near post.

Reading deservedly levelled through Rinomhota, whose volley was too hot to handle. Cardiff started extra time with a bang.

Reading’s Gabriel Osho tried to head back to his keeper Sam Walker, but undercooked it. Murphy nipped in to score, but there was still time for Meite to send the tie to penalties.
