A BRITISH couple are trapped on a cruise ship in Japan after 10 passengers tested positive for coronavirus.

David and Sally Abel are among nearly 3,000 passengers under quarantine for a fortnight on board the Diamond Princess.

It is anchored in Yokohama Bay after an 80-year-old passenger who left the ship in Hong Kong on January 25 tested positive.

Passengers have been confined to cabins, food is being rationed and alcohol banned.

Mr Abel, of Woodford Halse, Oxon, who began his trip 15 days ago, said he was told by a staff member the food service had been

Diamond Princess in Yokohama, left, rations

A UNIVERSITY of Edinburgh student living in Beijing has described being quarantined by coronavirus as “an inescapable nightmare”.

Lucy Wong, 18, took a year out from her law degree to live in the “bustling” Chinese capital, which she said had become a “ghost town”.

She said: “It’s been almost 21 days since I last walked out my front door and I can tell you the novelty of being inside all day, every day, wears off.”

She said advice was “blasted” out in the streets on repeat seven days a week. And she was living off tinned food as she followed the advice only to leave home for necessities.

She told student newspaper The Tab: “The severity of the situation soon hit. It’s quite an odd feeling to be simultaneously alarmed and bored at the same time.

“Staying indoors for weeks, face masks, sterilising every single thing possible, I miss the outside world.”

People who did venture out were wearing masks, gloves and goggles.

Lucy said: “Usually bustling streets, shops and restaurants are completely and utterly empty.”
