SEARCH Son Neil Berriman
SCOTLAND Yard has quizzed the son of Lord Lucan’s nanny over his claims the missing peer is still alive.
They will investigate the new evidence that Neil Berriman provided, which he said shows the peer is living in Australia.
Two senior officers interviewed Mr Berriman for almost three hours earlier this week.
They have asked him to return for a further meeting after he said he had more evidence from an earlier trip to Australia in 2018.
Mr Berriman visited the cold case unit at a police station in Putney, South West London.
He insists a frail and seriously ill Lucan is living as a Buddhist in Australia.
Lucan fled in 1974 after bludgeoning Mr Berriman’s mum Sandra Rivett, 29, to death.
Mr Berriman said: “It was a very positive meeting and I’m very grateful to Scotland Yard. I am very positive and I believe the investigation will now progress.
“I believe I am much closer to getting justice for Sandra.”
He added: “They’ve asked me to come back soon. I told them I’ve even more evidence. They said they wanted to see everything I had.”
The officers took copious notes and were provided with photos of the man he claims is 85-year-old Lucan.
He also ran through the eight aliases the man has used and provided his full home address.
Last week, the Mirror revealed that Mr Berriman, 53, of Milland, West Sussex, had spent four years and £30,000 trying to track Lucan down. Following a tip-off, he flew to Australia twice and is convinced the rogue peer is living in a shared house.
He said: “He has been alive all this time. Lying about who is. Lying about it to his new friends.
“They are fully aware he is a mysterious elderly Englishman and not who he is claiming to be. The people he lives with know he has a mystery past.
“They have had their suspicions for many years.”
The Metropolitan Police said: “The inquiry remains open. Any significant new information will be considered.”
