RYAN THRIVES ON PRESSURE

- BY DARREN LEWIS

RYAN SESSEGNON is relishing the pressure of leading Tottenham to glory this term.

After a difficult first half of the season the north Londoners are now fighting on three fronts with a top-four place up for grabs, the Champions League set to resume and FA Cup glory still possible.

It has teed up a crucial final four months of the campaign for Jose Mourinho’s men who reached the Champions League

Final under former boss Mauricio Pochettino last term.

Sessegnon, 19, is motivated by the high stakes and said: “That’s why I came to a top-four club to play in the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League. Any young player wants to play in big tournaments and big games.”

The former Fulham star joined Spurs for £25million in the summer, but struggled to break into the first-team after an injury setback early on this term. But Mourinho has placed his faith in him and Sessegnon (above) is desperate to repay it.

He added: “I expected to come to the club to play in big games and so far I’ve played some important games for the club.

“I don’t think I feel pressure. Well, of course everyone feels pressure for this football club, but I don’t think there’s any added pressure, no.” Spurs skipper Hugo Lloris (left) has urged Spurs to remain consistent after two important wins in a week. They now play Norwich in the next round of the Cup but, after the winter break, go to Aston Villa in the Premier League on February 16.

“It is going to be the most important period of the season,” said the keeper. “The period when you can win or lose things.

“In the Premier League, we are not in a comfortable situation.

“But we are going to try and do everything to catch the teams above us – which is going to demand a lot of consistency – to get into the top four.”
