But ill Elton needs a hand
WALKING pneumonia is an informal term for atypical pneumonia, an infection which is not severe enough to require bed rest. Symptoms include a violent cough, fever, sore throat, chest pain, tiredness and headaches. It is similar to a bad cold.
SOBBING and ill with pneumonia, Sir Elton John is helped off stage at a concert in New Zealand after telling fans: “I sang my heart out until my voice could sing no more.”
As Elton walked off, the music to Don’t Go Breaking My Heart was playing and so the crowds sang the song for him as they gave the 72-year-old star a standing ovation.
He had kicked off the gig at the 30,000-capacity Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland by warning fans that he had been diagnosed with “walking pneumonia”.
Later, he apologised for cutting short the concert and said he had been “determined to give you the best show humanly possible”. He
Tears from Elton said: “I’m disappointed, deeply upset and sorry – I gave it all I had.
“Thank you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight’s performance.
“I am eternally grateful.” Fans were sympathetic. Lesley Warwick, a photographer, said: “I was so sad for Sir Elton.
“The show was fantastic and he gave it everything he had. Kiwis are a very understanding and compassionate lot. He was given a standing ovation as he left.”
Sir Elton is due to perform in Auckland again tomorrow and on Thursday as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
