And although a massive stroke robbed him of his speech in May 2015, we hear from the man himself as well through historic interviews and footage.
Jones, who is a sprightly 85, added: “Firstly, Jim’s a great pal. And then he’s quite possibly the greatest goalconcerned 47 135 2 184
16 scorer England has ever seen. It’s sad to see he’s not well because he was a special character.
“I wouldn’t say he was the greatest player in the world, but when it comes to scoring goals there was never anybody better than Jim.
“He’s a very good friend as well and helped me along in my life.
“It’s a known fact I’m a recovering alcoholic and Jim is a big part of that.
“Joan, my wife, was very about my way of life and asked Jim to have a word with me.
“He said, ‘You’ve got a lovely wife and family, a lovely home and job, do you want to lose them all?’ I said, ‘Of course I don’t, what are you talking about?’
“He said, ‘I’ll tell you something, if y o u carry on as you are, you will lose them. I know because it happened to me, so you must go to Alcoholics Anonymous’.
“I said, ‘I’m not an alcoholic’, but of course you’re always the last to know.
“That was 32 years ago and I’ve been clean and sober since. It was Jim. I’m getting older and my memory isn’t what it used to be. But I’ll never forget Jimmy Greaves.”

WE know what they did last summer.
In the heat of the Wanda Metropolitano, Liverpool not only made themselves the kings of Europe for a sixth time when they beat Tottenham 2-0, they also answered critics who said that their stunning football counted for nothing without a trophy to show for it.
Ten months on, Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League and there is no more noise from the critics.
And as the Reds return to the Metropolitano to face Atletico Madrid in tomorrow’s Champions League tie, manager Jurgen Klopp said the venue will give them added impetus.
“We know that it’s just a stadium,” said Klopp. “But it’s a positive emotion when we think about that stadium. It was one of our greatest nights but we are not going there for a pilgrimage. We have had enough time to let these things settle.”
Klopp knows how Atletico will shape up under manager Diego Simeone tomorrow.
“If somebody knows how to play for a result it’s Atletico and Mr Simeone, whom I respect a lot,” the Liverpool chief said.
“He is so competitive. Wow! We actually have a good relationship but I’m really sure he will forget that on the sidelines because he is too animated.”
Klopp regards Portuguese schemer Joao Felix as Atletico’s dangerman.
He said of the 20-year-old, who moved to Spain from Benfica for £113million last summer: “I think I have the same opinion as 99 percent of football people in the world. He is outstanding. The talent he has, he pretty much combines everything. Some of our coaches worked with him when he was a kid, so ask them. But he is a special, special talent.
“It’s the combination. He can combine his technical skills with speed and awareness in small spaces. In footballing terms he is really intelligent on top of that. So what more can I say?”
