CARLO’S AWAY DAY BLUES ARE CRYING SHAME

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

CARLO ANCELOTTI admits that Everton’s away record against the Premier League big six makes him want to cry.

And the Everton boss aims to end a winless streak that goes back more than six years and 37 matches, after working on a winning mentality in training.

Everton visit Arsenal tomorrow and have not won at the Emirates, or at Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham or Manchester United, since a victory at Old Trafford under Roberto Martinez in 2013.

When that stat was pointed out to him, Ancelotti (above) joked: “Not one victory? Wow! I’m going to cry! It’s time to win then!”

The Italian is aware that to end that run – of 25 defeats and 12 draws – his Everton players must be more ruthless than they have been.

That means planning only for a win at Arsenal, and no negative tactics.

“You have to give to the players the idea and the confidence that we can do it, that we can win,” he said.

“It will be difficult, but that’s normal because Arsenal are much better at this moment. But we have worked with the idea of winning.”

Ancelotti has also challenged his players to get serious about their European ambitions, not only with a win tomorrow but by taking on the other Champions League and Europa League contenders.

The Toffees face the Gunners, Chelsea, United and Liverpool in their next four games, and Ancelotti said: “We want to think about Europe next season.

“It is obvious to say these next four games are vital for us. The more points we can get the more possibility there is of qualifying.

“The players know that these are really important games, that they are more important than other games, because we can test how good we are.

“I think we are good, but it is the results that judge you.”

Ancelotti has indicated he could recall midfielder Andre Gomes for tomorrow’s match, after a serious ankle injury which has kept him out since November.
