Boris has a ball as we all suffer

-

■ TIMES of crisis tend to bring out the best or worst in leaders, and with our part-time PM, it is clearly the latter. Hundreds have lost homes and businesses in devastating floods, and the coronavirus threatens to overwhelm our beleaguered NHS, but Johnson prefers to attend the Tory Party’s lavish fundraiser rather than show leadership in a national emergency (Mirror, Feb 27).

It seems that wining and dining the multimillionaire Tory donors who helped to put him in power is more important than the plight of ordinary voters. I wonder if those who lent the Tories their vote at the election are regretting it yet?

Boris Johnson has to be the worst PM in living memory. George Wilkins, Leeds

■ I am not surprised that Boris Johnson would go to a ball with his cronies rather than visit flood victims. This PM is a chancer who fibbed and cajoled to get into No10. The country deserves better. We have record numbers of homeless people, so how grotesque it was to see the elite dining on the finest food washed down with the finest wines while so many in this country are dependent on foodbanks. The unfairness of it all makes me feel physically sick and very angry.

Lorraine Thornton Poole, Dorset

■ What an absolute disgrace that Johnson is living it up at a Tory ball where attendees were worth £25billion while people suffer these terrible floods and the coronavirus threatens to spread. He has done absolutely nothing since he won the election on his “Get Brexit done” mantra. The truth is, he doesn’t care about the electorate who voted him into power – as with all true blue Tories, all they care about is looking after their rich cronies. God help us with five years of this lot to look forward to – it brings to mind Roman Emperor Nero fiddling while Rome burned.

Dave Mellor, Warrington, Cheshire

■ I wonder what those who turned their backs on Labour at the last election are thinking now. Johnson could not care less about all those people who’ve been flooded out of their homes, preferring to join his rich friends at a posh ball.

The Tories are wrecking this country and very soon we’re going to have the other blond buffoon from America advising Johnson how to run the country. Let’s get Labour going again to hold Johnson and his gang to account. Michael Maher, Ashton-underLyne, Gtr Manchester

■ Perhaps all those gullible people who thought Boris Johnson was the new messiah will now realise he is nothing more than a coward. He runs away and hides at the first sign of an emergency and does nothing to help.

Get wise, all you people who have been deserted and lied to, and when the council elections are held in May, get your own back by voting Labour.

M Bell, Newcastle upon Tyne

■ Despite the two crises facing the country, Boris Johnson certainly seems to have found the time to go to the Tories “one nation” Winter Ball, where tables cost up to £15,000, to schmooze the Prime Minister. One nation? You’re having a laugh, Mr Johnson

Heather Hamer, Bridport, Dorset

■ As the Prime Minister was busy getting ready for his lavish ball, people in flooded-out areas have been left to fend for themselves. Boris doesn’t care for the common folks now he has got their vote. If he did, he would abandon HS2 and help build better flood defences to stop people’s lives being ruined.
