Newcastle stars playing Monopoly, Call of Duty, golf and gardening in Switzerland but are told: Don’t chance health

NEWCASTLE’S stars have revealed their routines after being sent home during football’s shut-down.

But they have been warned by Steve Bruce and his staff that the break is no holiday.

Miguel Almiron is playing Monopoly and Uno to keep busy in between his prescribed fitness routing on his treadmill.

Fabian Schar is in Switzerland helping his mum out with her gardening, while Karl Darlow is exploring Northumberland’s country roads on his new bike.

And skipper Jamaal Lascelles has been brushing up on his Call of Duty: Warzone prowess.

A squad source said: “People ask what we are all doing and how footballers occupy their time in a situation like this.

“The truth is we are no different from the public and have to stay in and stay safe.”

Keeper Rob Elliot has taken up teaching his kids, and revealed: “We do some home schooling – reading, writing, drawing, whatever we can, then a Disney film. In the afternoon we keep the kids active by playing games and running around before tea, and getting ready for bath and bed for the kids. Then we try to stay awake past 8.30pm and wonder how the amazing teachers and nursery staff do it!”

Keen golfer Jonjo Shelvey has been working on his swing after his morning training. So too is Matty Longstaff, whose contract expires at the end on June, when the season may not even have started again. Paul Dummett is in rehab after a hamstring injury. The defender has been warned not to let the lockdown harm his recovery.

He said: “I’m doing running through Jesmond Dene. It’s a pretty important window for my rehabilitation because if I don’t do the work required then I may have longer-term deficits.”

Almiron (left) has done his bit to help folk in his native Paraguay stay safe, backing their #QuedateEnCasa – stay at home – drive on social media.

But centre-back Federico Fernandez says the club’s trainers and medics have hammered home a key message – they can’t neglect their fitness.

He said: “We have to do some fitness work – they’ve told us pretty clearly it’s no holiday and we need to keep working, so I’ve tried to do that at home, or outside in the garden.”
