On Last Night’s TV

- IAN HYLAND

Breeders, Sky One ★★★★ *SPOILER ALERT*: DO NOT LET YOUNG KIDS READ THIS. Y ou had to feel sorry for anyone hoping to give the nation a laugh on TV last night.

The funniest thing viewers could possibly have seen on screen all day had already happened just after 9am.

Joe Wicks punching himself in the face during his daily PE lesson for kids on YouTube.

No, I never knew he was taking requests either.*

Sky One did run Joe close with Breeders, its refreshingly truthful parenting comedy starring Daisy Haggard and Martin Freeman.

However, despite all the guilty laughs which it provided, it still sent me off to bed in a fresh panic.

This latest episode featured that age-old dilemma: What do you do when the kids start asking difficult questions about Santa?

Paul (Freeman) was all for telling young Luke the truth, but Ally (Haggard ) advised against it. “He’s only seven – don’t s*** on his dreams,” she said. “Wait till he’s eight.”

My panic set in after all their talk of Santa edged me towards another dilemma: What if the coronavirus measures last until Christmas? If Santa is in lockdown in the North Pole how do I explain the pile of presents in the living room?

I could always punch myself in the face and chip a couple of teeth while doing some seasonal star jumps.

That would only distract them for so long, though.

*I wasn’t really hoping Joe Wicks would punch himself in the face. The man’s a legend in our living room.
