DISASTER IF SEASON IS SCRAPPED
Jordan Henderson leads five more Liverpool men & five other special players who dominated the top flight this season
JERMAINE JENAS insists the season has to be completed no matter what – with all remaining games played.
“Even if it doesn’t start again until July we finish this one first,” said Jenas. “Then we deal with what’s in front of us.
“If it means we have to lose the cup competitions and some international friendlies, then OK. Reality is, getting the domestic leagues finished is paramount for all divisions.
“If we didn’t, the problems it would cause legally and commercially could last years.
“People say during the war football stopped for seven years. This isn’t that, a terrible scenario but not a war.
“The impact of just packing this season in historically would be too big. What happens at Villa? Second bottom now, with a game in hand. They could get out of it – and I worry about them if they don’t, financially.
“If they relegate Villa today, with them having a chance to get out of it, the impact on their history would be huge. They might not come back from that.
“The season has to be finished. It’s what the players want, it’s what managers would vote for and what all fans would vote for, apart from Man Utd fans.”
THE temptation is to pick a stack of Liverpool players because they have been so dominant and brilliant.
But it is not just the big names at the biggest clubs in this team.
I’ve selected players who have had a huge level of influence on their clubs.
Obviously, Liverpool’s back four have been unbelievable.
But Enda Stevens gets in at left-back because he has shone at Sheffield United, one of the teams of the season. He’s not a better player than Andy Robertson. Likewise, Danny Ings is not a better player than Mo Salah, for that striker’s berth.
And Raul Jimenez is not better that Sergio Aguero. People will say Jamie Vardy should be there for the goals.
But I have a feeling for certain players – they’ve had a massive season, or kicked on, or shown character. And that makes them just as special as others at clubs who will win trophies when the campaign is finally finished.
