GOSDEN’S TWO GOOD

Trainer set for televised double with Dettori

-

TEREBELLUM should prove the star of Newmarket’s 2,000 Guineas undercard with a comeback victory in the Group 2 Betfair Dahlia Stakes (2.25).

Unraced as a two-year-old, John Gosden’s daughter of Sea The Stars opened her account on her racecourse debut at Goodwood in May before a third in Listed company at Newmarket the following month.

However, Terebellum, who takes her name from a star in the Sagittarius constellation, put up a personal best with a victory in the Group 2 Prix de la Nonette at Deauville in August. And she more than matched that form when a close fifth to Villa Marina in the top-level Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp in October.

Frankie Dettori’s mount escapes a penalty for her Deauville score and, with further improvement likely, is the one to be on. Gosden (below) and Dettori are primed for an ITV double, completed by in the Listed Betfair Exchange Free Bet Streak Newmarket Stakes (3.00). A half-brother by Kingman to last season’s Arc winner Waldgeist, Waldkonig went off the 6-4 favourite for a novice stakes at Wolverhampton last December.

He duly got his career off to a winning start, surging to a nine-length supremacy and his times through the final furlongs of the race suggest he could be very smart.

James Tate has been among the winners since racing’s resumption and his gets the vote to cope with a rise in class for the Group 3 Betfair Supports Racing Welfare Palace House Stakes (1.50). PJ McDonald’s mount stepped up on a novice score at Windsor in June with a short-neck verdict in Listed grade at Deauville in July and should have no difficulty coming back from six furlongs to the minimum.

At Newcastle, is the selection for the Group 3 Betway Sagaro Stakes (2.40), re-routed from Ascot.

Roger Charlton’s seven-year-old has seen his career held in check by injury, but he’s a smart stayer on his day and his course-anddistance win in the 2018 Northumberland Plate – on the back of a 259-day lay-off – proved his ability to go well fresh. One-time 2,000 Guineas hope

a stable-companion of Terebellum and Waldkonig, should justify short odds as he bids to defend his unbeaten record in the Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap (3.15).

The Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap (2.05) looks open, but

progressed in the second half of the summer and the Karl Burke trainee isn’t done with yet.
