JON RAHM is ready to go mano-a-mano with Rory McIlroy for the world No.1 spot when the PGA Tour returns tomorrow.

But the hot-headed Spaniard does not want to wear an oncourse microphone because he fears he will get caught swearing.

The two Ryder Cup team-mates (above) will form a stellar grouping with world No.3 Brooks Koepka (below) at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas.

Sixteen of the world’s top 20 are in the field in the first event for 91 days after golf ’s coronavirus shutdown. And Rahm will become only the second Spaniard after Seve Ballesteros to top the rankings if he wins at the Colonial Country Club and McIlroy does not finish second.

“I’m not surprised we are playing together – I figured they were going to entice the viewers with a couple of really, really good groups,” said the Race

LONDON IRISH owner Mick Crossan says the decision to cut the Premiership salary cap could save some of England’s top rugby clubs from financial oblivion.

A meeting of club bosses on Monday night ended with unanimous agreement that the £7million cap should be reduced by £1.4m for two to Dubai winner. “No crowd but it’s still fun to play with the best players in the world and see what everybody has been up to.

“It’s hard to say who’s the best in the world after not competing for three months. It all depends on who’s prepared the best. I think we can only come back and prove that we deserve that spot.”

Rahm, who was tested for Covid-19 at 7am local time yesterday, will carefully follow strict social-distancing rules. But the Spaniard, who gained a reputation for temper tantrums earlier in his career, will not wear an oncourse microphone to allow TV viewers to listen in.

Exiles chief Crossan (right) revealed in April that last season had cost him £4m and spoke of the desperate need for top-flight English rugby to change its financial model.

“It had to become sustainable because it wasn’t,” he said. “This crisis has really brought home the issues the clubs have. You just think it would be as entertaining as people think,” said Rahmbo, who finished third at last year’s US Open at Pebble Beach. “Now, selfishly, because of who I am and I know how I am on the golf course, I wouldn’t support it just because they might need the sound to be a little bit delayed. And I’m not the only one.

“A lot of people swear. I don’t think it would be the best thing to do.”

World No.4 Justin Thomas added: “I would not wear a mic, no. That’s not me. What I talk about with (caddie) Jimmy (Johnson) and what I talk about with the guys in my group is none of anybody else’s business.” Evian Championship – one of the five women’s Majors – has been cancelled because of the restrictions over travelling to Europe from Asia and the US. can’t afford to keep running a business that’s losing £3-5m a year. It’s crazy.

“We had to get real. This (Covid-19) crisis could actually be a saving grace in that everyone hopefully now cuts their cloth to suit their pockets.

“Well, this gives us a better opportunity. We need to keep all the clubs in business to have a strong Premiership.”
