Blatant disregard of lockdown rules

-

■ What a surprise the PM’s father Stanley Johnson has apparently breached guidelines by travelling to Greece to stay at his luxury villa.

I’m not against him having a Greek villa – good luck to him – but it’s just ironic that another member of the elite seemingly gets away with flouting rules when the Government insists we’re all in it together.

Tell that to the unemployed who haven’t been financially supported during the lockdown while the privileged few are having a great time. Unfortunately, we have to put up with another four years of this Government, but voters must remember its shambolic response to coronavirus and arrogant flouting of the rules in any local and by-elections.

■ So, the PM’s dad, Stanley, has found a way to get to his second home in Greece via Bulgaria. How very clever. I too should have been enjoying the delights of Rhodes in Greece this week but I’m not one to bend the rules.

I’ve cancelled my one and only getaway this year in order to protect myself, my family and the rest of our community. As an NHS worker, I know only too well why these rules should be heeded. I am appalled that our so-called Government has let us down so badly.

■ What is it with these privileged individuals that they do as they please and get away with it? The rules around foreign travel at this time of Covid have been put in place by governments across the world for the good of all, but the likes of Dominic Cummings, Nigel Farage and Stanley Johnson blatantly disregard them and nothing happens.

What a snub to Greece too, which still has travel restrictions on UK visitors – presumably because of our Government’s poor handling of the crisis.

■ The irresponsibility of Stanley Johnson is very dangerous. What he has done has given the green light to anyone and everyone to totally ignore all health and safety advice over Covid.

Through his actions, he has effectively said to all the people in Leicester that it is perfectly OK to ignore all the lockdown rules and do as you please. He is a very dangerous fool.

Mark Smith, Leicester

■ Privileged Stanley Johnson insults the British public by apparently breaching travel guidelines. The majority of people in the UK observe the rules and are happy to do so, but the likes of him don’t and they get away with it.

I suggest that he sends for his son Boris and the pair remain permanently in Greece!

Mike Minchella Scarborough, North Yorks

■ I’m not sure Stanley Johnson’s apparent breach of travel rules is about entitlement. How many of us don’t sometimes admire someone who doesn’t play by the rules, no matter what their background?

This is more serious. It’s about irresponsibility and that is made worse when it comes from those in responsible positions.

Sadly, it’s the vulnerable, along with frontline workers, who are most likely to pay for their ignorance.

John Welsh, Oulton, Cumbria

■ Shame on Stanley Johnson setting such poor example. What is the point of having rules and then disregarding them? His actions are also very disrespectful of the rules Greece has put in place to keep its people safe.
