999 assaults ‘2 strike’ call

CRIMINALS who attack emergency workers more than once should face a guaranteed jail term, a senior police officer has said.

The Government is consulting on doubling the maximum penalty for assaulting an emergency worker to two years.

Met Deputy Commission­er Sir Stephen House told the London Assembly he favours a “two strike” policy, adding: “Then there is an automatic prison sentence... a decent one to discourage people.”
