Washer filters ‘cut pollution’
WASHING machines could be fitted with filters to cut the amount of microfibres in wastewater by up to 80%.
Researchers say the fibre-catchers could “dramatically” reduce plastic pollution in oceans.
Dr Imogen Napper, of the University of Plymouth, said: “Fibres are among the key sources of microplastics.
“Companies are inventing ways which claim to reduce the amount [in] wastewater.”
