DANGER Balcony barbecue

BALCONY barbecues have been banned from sale by Amazon over fire fears.

The compact grills that hook over balcony railings are popular with people living in flats but were called “staggeringly irresponsible” by one fire chief.

Richard Mills, deputy commissioner of the London Fire Brigade, warned manufacturers and retailers including Amazon last month that the barbies were “an accident waiting to happen”.

LFB has dealt with 600 balcony fires in three years, including one in Deptford, South East London, in May caused by a barbie being dumped in a plastic bag.

Amazon said: “As soon as the LFB raised concerns and new evidence we took quick action.” Gift website Menkind has also removed the barbecues from sale.
