Winning the award for the best-ever question posed on MasterChef is travel presenter Amar Latif, who just happens to be blind.
After his cooking partner Gethin Jones is blasted by judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode for not using enough sugar and butter in his pud, Amar jests: “Can I just ask? Are you guys quite fat?”
Gregg replies: “Are you familiar with Jean-Claude Van Damme? I’m about the same shape.”
It’s extraordinary to watch Amar cook as he and Gethin are tasked with a teamwork challenge of making identical apple charlotte desserts with custard.
Meanwhile, musician Lady Leshurr and actor Felicity Montagu have to recreate John’s Paris-Brest dessert with cherries in kirsch syrup – with mixed results.
“I’m just blagging it, I honestly don’t know,” says Felicity.
Later, the cooking gets tougher when the four are faced with their first mass-catering challenge, cooking lunch for more than 100 scientific research staff.
These pioneers of science might well discover that they are going to go hungry.
