Victims deserve medal
■ Today marks the 75th anniversary of Operation Trinity – the first detonation of a nuclear device. This was followed with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These events led to a proliferation of nuclear weapons-testing around the world.
The UK’s testing programme caused suffering to the inhabitants of Christmas Island. Many of the 22,000 British servicemen involved died from unexplained illnesses.
