Complaints about Happy Mondays pair
If I can wear a mask and still bang out Cry Me A River, you can wear one to pop to the shops!”
Hedgehog aka The Masked Singer winner Jason Manford, is (rightly) prickly about face-mask whingers.
Sir Jackie Stewart has defended Formula One, after Lewis Hamilton called for more diversity. The racing legend, 81, told ITV’s Good Morning Britain yesterday: “I don’t think there’s as big a problem as there might be seen.”
He added that as long as people have the engineering qualifications, then F1 would welcome them.
“There’s no resistance to change in F1,” he said. “If somebody is clever and good at what they do, they’re going to be taken into F1.”
Sounds as if he and Lewis need to get on the same track...
There’s one celebrity must-have that is now more popular than any other – and, no, it’s not a micropig again. It’s having your very own podcast.
It started with the likes of Fearne Cotton, but it seems every A-lister has to have one on their CV. The latest is former US First Lady Michelle Obama, who will be talking about “the relationships that shape us, from siblings and close friends to partners”, from July 29.
It sounds great, but what we really want to know are the juicy secrets from the West Wing – and if they hid fish under the floorboards for its next resident.
You can’t please all the people all the time – as Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder and Bez found out.
They may have been a hit on Celebrity Gogglebox, but after chatting about drugs during Scarface they also landed the show with 200 Ofcom complaints.
Yet today Shaun has hit back and feels those up in arms should change their tune. He said: “We were being shown Scarface, a film where he’s talking about taking huge amounts of drugs. So I’ll talk about sailing, shall I?
“We did absolutely nothing wrong. Do we not have free speech in this country? Or is that just in America?” He was also targeted when Bez had to come to his house to film the first episodes during lockdown. They followed all social distancing guidelines, with Shaun’s house becoming a makeshift studio, just like other magazine shows. Shaun said: “That was funny. People were saying ‘Shaun and Bez don’t live together’, there was this big outcry. I was like ‘Oh come on, What a bunch of nutters!’
“All the social distancing rules were followed. The leads and cameras were fed through the window, the crew that set it up came in my house looking like a nuclear experiment.”
New couple Pixie Lott and fiance Oliver Cheshire will join the pair in tonight’s final Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4, 9pm.
Production companies are ready to discuss other shows the Happy Mondays stars could do. Shaun, whose favourite programme is “the news”, liked being on I’m A Celeb. He said: “Before the jungle I was just the mad rocker who went on TV shows off my t**s. But on that show, you can show who you are.”
He has rejected doing a At Home With The Ryders, calling it a “ball ache”. It’d be fun for Bez to watch on the next Gogglebox though…
