Radiohead’s Ed: ‘Elvis trip was Creepy’

- BY STEPHEN BEECH

ALL SHOOK UP Ed O’Brien

RADIOHEAD guitarist Ed O’Brien has revealed he was spiked with LSD at a festival and thought he was Elvis Presley.

Speaking on The Adam Buxton Podcast, Ed – whose hits include Creep – said: “I once got spiked at the Reading Festival in a year we didn’t play. Someone gave me some acid and I remember I was just like, ‘What is going on?’.

“I had an amazing night. I kept on looking in the mirror thinking I was Elvis.

“That’s a classic bad drugs story. They are really not for everybody.”

O’Brien, 52, who has just released his debut solo album Earth, said of writing his own songs: “If you’re going to do something outside of Radiohead you have to be absolutely sure it’s the right thing.”

Van is lost to the rising sea water

Man after cig swim

A SHIRTLESS hero plunges dramatically into the sea to rescue… packets of cigarettes. Bizarre pictures and video show a white van submerged by the rising tide at Redcar, North Yorkshire, yesterday.

A group of men tried to tow the van to safety using a tractor but were thwarted when the rope kept snapping.

One man swam out to the stricken van and returned clutching a few packets of cigarettes, Teesside Live reported. Witness Keighly Finnegan said the van had earlier towed a speedboat on a trailer to the beach but that it then seemed to suffer an engine failure. She added of the scene as the tide encroached: “There was about four people trying to push it but it just wouldn’t move.” A man believed to be the van’s owner declined to comment at the scene.
