Hall yours.. for £2.50

Couple to raffle £900k Georgian home for NHS & hospice charity

- BY TOM HITCHENOR

A COUPLE are raffling their £930,000 Georgian mansion for just £2.50 a ticket.

And Guy and Julie Vass plan to donate hundreds of thousands of pounds from the proceeds to help the NHS and hospice charities.

Georgian Grade II listed Melling Hall features a sweeping gravel driveway, huge designer kitchen, three en-suite double bedrooms and even a former butler’s sitting room.

Julie, 62, manager of a GP practice, said she hoped enough tickets would sell to be able to donate £200,000.

Guy, 66, a retired clothing businessman, wanted to help his local hospice as he lost his mother Irene to cancer when she was diagnosed when he was just 16 years old.

He said: “She was well cared for at the end and I always knew I wanted to do something. My heart say this is the right time. Julie and I have worked hard, brought up our two wonderful children here.

“It’s now time to down-size and rather than just putting the house on the market, we decided to take the chance to do something significant to help the local community by looking after our local hospice, the NHS and other deserving charities.

“End-of-life care is one thing no one wants to talk about, but it’s one thing everybody needs, so Julie and I want to play our part in supporting it.”

The couple bought the grand home at Carnforth, Lancs, 18 years ago and spent £200,000 and much care restoring it.

The draw will take place on September 15 and tickets can be bought via winacountryhall.com.
