The nightmare on Downing St
■ ONE year of Boris Johnson and what a disgraceful one. He has conned the over-75s with lies to save the free TV licence to get votes, he let Dominic Cummings get away with travelling during the Covid-19 lockdown so he could get someone to look after his son, and questionable decisions regarding coronavirus... and now he’s changed his mind about wearing masks. In a word, disastrous, so be off with you. Carol Crawley Upminster, East London
■ Boris will be remembered in the history books as THE worst political figure this country has ever seen.
People in the future will study how his negligence resulted in so many unnecessary deaths and how he managed to swindle the entire country with lies, spin and the power of three-part slogans over the weak minded. And even though his lies were proven, people still supported him, all because they’d been brainwashed by right-wing propaganda.
It will seem so unbelievable to future generations how someone so incompetent got into a position of so much power.
Mike Towey, Liverpool
■ Let’s start with the highest death toll in Europe due to the mismanagement of the pandemic, allowing Russian oligarchs to influence policies like Brexit, playing into Putin’s plans, concerns about selling off the NHS, accusations of lying about border controls, having no intention to strike a deal with Europe because he has already sold out to Trump, defending Dominic Cummings over the breaking of lockdown, non-working apps, and deficient PPE and ventilators.
Aside from all this, he doesn’t work weekends or read policy briefs or answer any questions.
He is a completely vindictive, venal, over-privileged excuse for a Prime Minister and the last thing we need now is a reckless chancer like him in a time of crisis. Christine Ace, via Facebook
■ Given the circumstances in the last four months and the fact he had to fight Covid-19 and still run the country from his sick bed, Boris has proved he is the right man for the job.
I can’t wait until we’re fully out of the precious EU just to witness a sea of Remainer tears.
Donald Tolmie, Aberdeen
■ This excuse for a PM was already known as an inept, lazy, arrogant, bigoted liar, before he shanghaied the leadership of the Tories!
Why is it that because he talks with a plummy accent and spouts Latin at inappropriate times that the sheep assume that he’s intelligent or competent enough to vote for him?
Phil Gorman, via Facebook
■ How dare people doubt Boris? He has been the best Prime Minister in many a year. He’s done what he promised and handled the pandemic better than anyone else could. Long may he reign as PM. Edna Freeley, Ashford, Kent
■ A nightmare on Downing Street would be my summing up of Johnson’s first year as Prime Minister. As much as he has wanted to be defined by his handling of Brexit, it’s his mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic that will ultimately define his premiership.
Johnson is clinging on by his fingernails and once the full inquiry is finally released, the real nightmare for Johnson will begin.
As for Rishi Sunak waiting in the wings, I wonder how popular he will be when it comes to paying the vast sums of money back. Amanda Brown, Norfolk
