HOW THE FINAL DAY UNFOLDED

4.05pm: A hammer blow for Watford’s hopes of survival as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converts an early penalty. It is already a long way back for Hayden Mullins’ men. Arsenal 1 Watford 0.

4.13pm: Bournemout­h have to win to stand any chance of staying up and what a start for them against Everton at Goodison Park as Joshua King puts them ahead from the penalty spot.

4.13pm: At the same time, Harry Kane maintains Spurs’ bid for a Europa League place as he puts them 1-0 up at Crystal Palace.

4.24pm: The end must be nigh for Watford as it is now 2-0 at the Emirates, this time Kieran Tierney is on the scoresheet for the Gunners.

4.33pm: Goodbye yellow brick road? Aubameyang makes it 3-0 to Arsenal.

4.41pm: Bournemout­h have to do it again as Moise Kean equalises for Everton.

4.43pm: Troy Deeney gives Watford a glimmer of hope as he converts a spot-kick two minutes before half-time.

4.46pm: Oh my. This is what the final afternoon is all about. On the stroke of half-time, Dominic Solanke puts Bournemout­h back in front.

4.47pm: Across London at Stamford Bridge, stoppage time takes the focus to the Champions League as Chelsea take the lead against Wolves through Mason Mount and then, within minutes, it is 2-0 to Chelsea through Olivier Giroud.

HALF-TIME IN THE KEY MATCHES

Chelsea, on 66 points, and Manchester United, on 64, are third and fourth and in the Champions League. Leicester, fifth on 63, are in the Europa League, along with Spurs in sixth.

AT THE BOTTOM

Watford remain second from bottom on 34 points, the same as Bournemout­h, third from bottom. Aston Villa are safe, fourth from bottom on 35, but if they concede a goal, Bournemout­h would overtake them. Both have a goal difference of -26. SECOND HALF

5.12pm: Crystal Palace are level with Spurs as Jeffrey Schlupp makes it 1-1.

5.27pm: Hold on a minute, Watford have scored again, as Danny Welbeck strikes against his old club. They now trail 3-2.

5.28pm: Champions League here they come… or at least that is what the Manchester United fans would be singing because they have taken the lead against Leicester at the King Power. Bruno Fernandes is the hero from the penalty spot.

5.39pm: Junior Stanislas puts Bournemout­h 3-1 up at Everton but they are still going down as Villa are hanging on.
