MARK WILLIAMS has ruled out another victorious naked press conference if he wins a fourth world title.

The Welshman edged into the quarter-finals of the Betfred World Championship with a thrilling 13-11 win over the 2015 Crucible king Stuart Bingham.

And memories are still fresh of his unexpected triumph two years ago when he honoured a rash promise made earlier in the tournament.

Williams appeared for questioning wearing only a towel, which he then shed once sitting down.

World No.3 Williams said: “It would be unbelievable to win a fourth world title, I had only won it twice until two years ago and thought I’d never win it again but managed to scrape a third one.

“I am one behind John Higgins. It would be incredible to match his number but that’s all too far ahead.

“And I won’t say anything stupid about another naked press

KYREN WILSON believes his bye into the last 16 is a mixed blessing.

Kettering-born Wilson (right) progressed when Anthony Hamilton dramatically withdrew on health grounds just 36 hours before their Betfred World Championship clash.

Hamilton and Ronnie conference, there is nothing happening there this year.

“The nation couldn’t bear to see that again so I’m not saying anything stupid and keeping my mouth shut because if I said it, I’d have to do it in the unlikely event it happened.”

With players restricted to one supporter in the arena, Williams is being cheered on by 13-year-old son Kian.

He added: “He is here with me, he said I was c**p after the first round. You can only laugh but I got him back for that later.

“He wasn’t much help this morning though. He was supposed to be picking the balls out in practice but sat there on his phone.

“I’ll have to crack the whip, take him out on to the golf course later and give him a b ******** g. He’s quite dry and takes the mickey – no idea where he gets that from.

“It never gets easier coming here, only more difficult. I can pot anything or miss the easiest ones you have ever seen. I am 45 going

O’Sullivan both questioned the wisdom of indoor crowds and a day after the ‘Sheriff of Pottingham’ pulled out, the Government closed the Crucible’s doors.

It has left world No.8 Wilson, winner of three ranking titles, kicking his heels. Ahead of today’s on 46, I won’t get any better now and my form will decline.

“It is frustrating, some of them even Steve Davis or John Parrott could still pot!”

Masters champion Bingham said: “I am gutted to be out, so many frames could have gone either way.”

Mark Selby breathed a sigh of relief after scraping into the Crucible quarter-finals for the first time in three years last night.

The Leicester Jester beat Thailand’s Noppon Saengkham 13-12 and will now face either world No.2 and former champion Neil Robertson or Barry Hawkins.

Selby, who produced a brilliant break of 124 in the tense decider, said: “It is a sense of relief more than anything else after that.

“I threw everything at Noppon and likewise he threw a lot at me. And that is the pleasing thing, I stood up to it.

“Coming through on the winning side of a match like this can do you a lot more good than winning easily.” game against Martin Gould, Wilson said: “I was disappointed when Anthony pulled out – I wanted to play. “It’s been such a long time since I played a longer match. Apart from some best of fours, it was the Gibraltar Open final back in March. I had worked really hard to be up for that first match on day one and the butterflies were going for the World Championship.

“It was just after taking my Covid-19 test I found out Anthony had pulled out, 24 hours before I was due to play. So it was a big shock and left me very flat in the days that followed.”
