Gang swipes rescue dog from shelter
Soldier and accuser couldn’t recall sex
TARGETED Stolen Zoey
THIEVES broke into an animal shelter to steal a rescue dog.
The group waited until after dark to cut wire fencing and then break bolts and padlocks on a door at the National Animal Welfare Trust site.
They made off with nine-year-old Jack RussellPoodle cross Zoey – who only entered the care of the charity two weeks ago.
Police are probing and staff have released pictures of Zoey to help trace her.
Centre manager Jackie de Friez said: “We are terrified for Zoey and desperately want her back.
“The criminals knew the site and appear to have worked out where the dog they wanted was.”
NAWT has five centres to rescue and rehome stray or unwanted animals.
A BRITISH Army Major accused of raping a colleague broke down in tears yesterday when a court martial found him not guilty.
Major Gregor Beaton, 33, had told the court he could not remember having sex as he was so drunk after a Burns Night supper with other soldiers.
The trial heard that when
Maj Beaton, of the 14th Regiment, Royal Artillery, and the woman woke up in bed she also had “no memory” of what had happened.
Bulford Military Court, in Wiltshire, was told she was so drunk a female colleague had to put her to bed. Afghanistan veteran Maj Beaton said she later wandered into his room. The accuser was said to be horrified when she woke up next to him.
After a panel of officers cleared Maj Beaton, Judge Advocate General Jeff Blackett said “Parliament should look again” at the law in cases where neither party remembers what has happened.
He said: “You have been found not guilty by this panel.
“It is intolerable this case has taken so long to get to court. That is unacceptable.
“There must be a better way of dealing with these cases.”
