HOOPS NEED TO BE MORE HUNGARY

-

CELTIC boss Neil Lennon is ready for a stern test against Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in tonight’s Champions League qualifier.

The Hoops boss (below) has been watching their rivals from Budapest and was impressed with their Europa League campaign last season.

Their only loss in the groups came against Bulgarian side Ludogorets and Lennon is ready for a battle in the one-legged home fixture, not least with his side’s 12th man absent from the stands again.

He said: “Ferencvaros had some pretty good results in the Europa League last season, and had a pretty comfortable win against Djurgardens in the previous round, so I expect a really tough game.

“Ultimately we want to play in the Champions League, but we know these ties are very difficult to negotiate.”

JAMIE VARDY will sign a new deal at Leicester to hand Brendan Rodgers a boost ahead of the new season.

Last season’s Golden Boot winner with 23 goals has agreed a one-year extension to 2023, which will take him beyond his 36th birthday.

A bargain £1million signing from Fleetwood in 2012, Vardy is a Foxes favourite. The former England striker helped the club win the Premier League title four years ago and has scored 103 top-flight goals.

Vardy (above) will follow Three Lions international James Maddison, who was tied down on a four-year contract earlier this week, in extending his stay at the King Power.

Leicester could confirm the deal today along with the £50m departure of England full-back Ben Chilwell to Chelsea.
