JOSE: SIR ALEX TOLD ME I HAD TO BUY DELE.. BUT I WENT FOR POGBA
JOSE MOURINHO has revealed the one piece of advice Sir Alex Ferguson ever gave him as Manchester United manager was to sign Dele Alli.
The former MK Dons player (above) had been signed by Tottenham and made an encouraging start to life in the Premier League.
In a conversation with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, aired as
DELE ALLI remembers nearly every word of the brutal assessment Jose Mourinho gave him during their very first conversation.
And the Tottenham midfielder insisted that he had forgotten the cameras were even there.
The exchange is the highlight of the first three episodes of the Tottenham: All or Nothing series which launches on Amazon Prime Video on Monday.
Three more new episodes will be available every
Monday until
September 14.
Speaking at a
Q&A session to launch the series premiere last night, there seemed to be no hard feelings from Alli that his dirty washing was being aired for subscribers. “When somebody like Mourinho speaks you listen every time,” said Alli (left). “It was our first real conversation with just the two of us. At the time you don’t think about the cameras in your mind, though they are there.
“In that situation, when such a big manager comes in, you are waiting to get a taste of what he thinks of you.
“It was a real conversation – so honest, not what they think you want to hear. “Sometimes it can be difficult to take but you realise it is not a negative conversation. “Watching it back, I think even now I can remember the whole conversation. “It certainly opened my eyes a little bit.”
