IT’S been a fair few years since Billie Piper was on the box as the lead in a TV series.
But she’s back with a bang – and a brutal breakdown – in this dark and different eight-part series which sees her team up again with Lucy Prebble, writer of Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Billie has co-created the show, and the eponymous character Suzie Pickles, which bears more than a passing resemblance to herself and her own life.
She’s a former child star singer who went on to find further fame acting in a science fiction show, before somewhat turning her back on things to move to the country and start an idyllic life with a dreamy husband and son.
As things kick off, Suzie has just heard she’s bagged a dream role in a Disney project and the big comeback is officially on.
Unfortunately, she then swiftly learns – while playing host to a houseful of media types there to organise a big photoshoot with the star – that her phone has been hacked and photos of her in compromising and intimate positions have been leaked all over the web.
Not exactly Disney Princess stuff – and not welcome news for her husband Cob, either (Daniel Ings, who’s previously appeared in The Crown, Black Mirror and W1A). Manager and best friend Naomi (Innocent’s Leila Farzad) arrives to help navigate the carnage that ensues as Suzie’s career, marriage and life collapse around her ears.
