BIELSA GETS HIS RELIANT ROBIN

- BY DAVID ANDERSON @MirrorAnderson

ROBIN KOCH will have his medical at Leeds this weekend before wrapping up a £13million move from Freiburg.

Koch said farewell to his old team-mates yesterday before flying to England to be checked out.

The defender will then return to Germany, ready to join up with Joachim Low’s squad on Monday.

The 24-year-old could face his prospective new Leeds team-mate Rodrigo on Thursday in Stuttgart when

Germany take on Spain in the Nations League with the striker close to joining in a club-record initial £27m move from Valencia.

Leeds set their sights on Koch after Brighton refused to sell them Ben White (right) and he is the type of ballplaying centre-half boss Marcelo Bielsa likes.

The Whites faced tough competition for Koch and RB Leipzig wanted him in January, while Newcastle and Lazio also showed interest.

Freiburg feel they had to cash in on Koch to avoid losing him on a free next summer as he has refused their offers of a new contract.

Leeds have been busy in the transfer market and yesterday completed the signing of England Under-17 striker Sam Greenwood from Arsenal. Greenwood, 18, has joined for an initial £1.5m, rising to £3m and has signed a three-year deal. The forward will join Leeds’ Under-23 squad and is the latest young talent to arrive this summer, following Charlie Allen, Cody Drameh, Joe Gelhardt and Dani van den

Heuvel. Greenwood has scored 12 goals in 14 games for England’s Under-17s and says working with Bielsa was a big factor in his decision to move north.

“This is such a big club and has such a good pathway for young players to come through – an exciting manager and the fans are special too,” he said.

“Arsenal is a great club and I met some great people along the way, but for me and my career I think it is the perfect time to come to Leeds.

“I can’t wait to work under Marcelo Bielsa and hopefully impress him.”
