FURY: FIGHT ME NEXT, AJ
DANIEL DUBOIS has warned Joe Joyce he is a “different animal” from the kid who sparred with him as a teenager.
Dubois was just 16 while Joyce was 28 when they went toe-to-toe in Sheffield during their time together in GB Boxing’s development squad.
Joyce claims he won those sessions six years ago but Dubois says the Olympic silver medallist would be foolish to base too much on them ahead of their October 24 clash at The O2.
“I was just 16 back then and I think he was 28,” he said. “Can you imagine that?
“I was jumping in the ring with all of them – Frazer
Clarke, AJ, all of them. I was only a young kid at the time.
“It would be a mistake for him to base much on those spars because I was a kid. I was still a junior then.
“That’s history now and I’m a different animal. I was training for the Olympics and was just a young kid. But I held my own and gave back as good as I got.”
Dubois, 22, has grown up since then and he stopped Ricardo Snijders in just two rounds on Saturday night at BT Sport studios to take his perfect pro record to 15-0.
The Greenwich fighter totally outgunned Snijders and put him down three times in the first round before finishing off the Dutchman with a left hook to the body 20 seconds into the second. wants AJ if he cannot fight Wilder. And Fury (right) has told the WBA Super, IBF and WBO champ to dump his next opponent Kubrat Pulev.
He said: “If Wilder doesn’t happen, let’s do Joshua in December.
“Let’s get it on, I’m ready to go now. I’d still kick his ass, any time of the day.
Dubois felt it was the perfect workout ahead of facing Joyce and said: “I needed a fight and that was perfect, just getting in and out. I’m calling Joe out and I’ll do the same to him, if not even better.
“I’m younger and stronger. There’s definitely an opportunity for me to win in good fashion and knock him out.” Joyce, 34, who is 11-0, was unimpressed by Dubois’ display and is confident he will win in October.
“It was to be expected and I thought he would stop him in round one,” he said.
“I’ve got some very tasty sparring partners and word on the street is they might have given Daniel some trouble. With my experience, I will be comfortable in there with him.”
Hopefully, they grow a pair and want to fight the Gypsy King.
“If I was in their position, I’d have taken my chance at glory to go to America and fight Wilder.
“But they didn’t take it, I had to come out of retirement, set about him and take the No.1 spot and all the glory.“
